Have you always wanted to make your own pottery?
Join us at the Flint and Gaia studio for our 6 week pottery throwing course! Under guidance from Scarlett our professional potter, over 6 weeks you will learn the art of pottery throwing! We will cover all of the techniques you need to make your own pots using a potters wheel!
Who is it for?
Aimed at complete beginners or those who have attended our Pottery Throwing Introduction. Perfect for those wanting to try a new skill or who want to build up their confidence in throwing in a relaxing, mindful environment. These intimate sessions have a maximum of 2 people so are a peaceful environment to help you get in the zone to develop your skills in a way that you can relax.
What will I learn?
During the weekly 1.5 hour sessions, you will start to build up your skills in throwing. From centering, opening out, pulling up and shaping. You will be able to create pots of your choice, with full tuition and guidance from a professional potter, offering different techniques to help you find your rhythm and give you the freedom to craft intuitively and mindfully. Each lesson will be catered to your skills and a personal lesson plan will be created for your next session.

What will I make?
We're open to suggestions during your sessions what you'd like to create! A general idea of what kind of things you can create are bowls, cups, mugs, vases, jugs and bottles etc. If you have an end goal of what you'd like to create, let us know!
What’s included?
Your ticket includes 1.5 hours per week of full tuition from a professional potter, use of facilities and tools, finishing, firing and glazing of your favourite pot each lesson. Your tutor will offer you a selection of glazes to choose from. Additional pots can be fired and glazed at an additional cost. 2kg of clay is included per lesson and there is option to purchase more clay on the day. This means you will come out with at least 6 fully refined, fired and glazes pots that you have created!

How will my pieces be finished?
During this course you will learn how to throw pots on the potters wheel, meaning we don't teach trimming, turning or refining your pieces during this course. All pieces will be refined to a professional standard and stamped with your name. We've chosen this approach as we've found from previous feedback that the throwing element is the one that people prefer to learn!
As for glazing, you have the option of different coloured glazes for your pot to be glazed in.

We do offer an optional additional lesson once your pieces have been bisque fired to come back and decorate your creations with underglazes. This has an additional charge and can be discussed during your lessons.
When will I be able to collect my pieces?
Your pieces will be refined, fired and glazed and will be ready for you to collect between 6-8 weeks. Your pieces can be posted at an extra charge.
All sessions are committed to at the time of booking. 6 weekly sessions at the same time each week. Our 6 week course is structured in a progressive way, with each lesson building upon the previous one. Unfortunately, we don't have spare places on our courses, so it's not possible to reschedule a missed lesson to another date.
